From a €50,000 Quote to Treatment in My Hometown: Why I Started Dental Travel Concierge

The founder's personal account of being priced out of treatment in Germany, finding care in his hometown in Romania, and building the service he wished had existed.

Where it started

I'm Cristian, born in the Maramureș region of Romania. Since I was fifteen, I have lived in Italy, Portugal, the United Kingdom, and Germany. Twenty years of building a life across Europe. Throughout those years, severe dental problems quietly shaped my confidence more than I ever cared to admit. I learned, like many people do, to manage the discomfort and to hide my smile.

The point where it became urgent

In my early thirties, while living in Germany, my dental health deteriorated rapidly. Teeth beneath existing bridgework had become infected and needed to be extracted. When I asked about my options, my German health insurance offered removable prostheses on both arches. When I asked about implants, the permanent solution that would let me eat, speak, and live normally, I was verbally quoted more than €50,000. The figure was never put in writing. It did not need to be.

Looking for a better path

I began researching alternatives seriously. I wanted treatment within the European Union, where medical standards, legal protections, and continuity of care felt familiar. I was not looking for a bargain. I was looking for quality I could trust at a price that did not require me to choose between my health and financial stability.

Back to Baia Mare

After months of careful planning, that search brought me back to my hometown: Baia Mare, in the historical region of Maramureș. What I found there was not what I had expected to find in my own backyard. Specialist clinics, modern equipment, EU-standard protocols, and prices I could actually afford. I also discovered that under EU cross-border healthcare regulations, part of my treatment could be reimbursed by my German health insurance. That combination changed the calculation entirely.

Why this service exists

Dental Travel Concierge exists because I know how overwhelming these decisions feel when you are in pain, afraid, and unsure who to trust. I know what it is to be quoted a sum that closes a door before the conversation has even started. I work only for patients, never accepting commission from clinics, never recommending anything other than what is truly in the patient's best interest. Because I have been on the other side, and I know how much that trust matters. If you are considering a similar path, I am happy to talk through it directly.
