Get to know the city
A Saxon city with German bones
Sibiu (historically Hermannstadt) was founded by Saxon settlers in the 12th century and remained a majority German-speaking community well into the 20th century. The medieval old town is one of the best preserved in Romania, with cobbled squares, the Lutheran Cathedral's Gothic spire, and the famously watchful eyes peering from the rooftops.
The Saxon thread is still everywhere: in the architecture, the food, the churches, and in the dentists who trained in or hold dual qualifications with German-speaking countries. Sibiu held the European Capital of Culture title in 2007 alongside Luxembourg, and the investment from that period is still visible.
For German, Austrian, and Swiss patients in particular, Sibiu often feels less like a foreign trip and more like a familiar central European city, with a meaningfully lower cost of living and treatment.

A Historically German City
Sibiu was founded by Saxon settlers in the 12th century and was historically known as Hermannstadt. The German cultural thread is still present in the architecture, food traditions, and in many dentists who trained in German-speaking countries.
Compact and Easy to Navigate
The old town, clinics, hotels, and restaurants are all within easy walking distance or a short taxi ride. Patients travelling alone consistently find it one of the more straightforward Romanian cities to manage independently.
2007 European Capital of Culture
Sibiu held the European Capital of Culture title in 2007, alongside Luxembourg City. The cultural investment from that period is still visible in the city's museums, restored buildings, and events calendar.
English and German at Partner Clinics
Given the city's heritage and proximity to German-speaking markets, both languages are well represented at international-facing clinics. I confirm language capability before any referral.
